Meet the team.
Our Committee.
The backbone of the society.
Our society is powered by a dynamic team of 40 students dedicated to making our events and initiatives a success. At the helm is our Executive Committee, including the President, Vice-President, General Secretary, and Treasurer, who oversee the society’s vision and operations. Supporting them are our seven specialized sub-teams, each bringing unique skills to the table - from organizing career events and securing sponsorships to managing social media, logistics, and more. Together, we run the society, host exciting events, and deliver the annual Symposium. Get to know the passionate individuals behind the scenes below!
Meet the Executive Committee
-

Josh De Buhr
President
Moin, my name is Josh. I’m a 3rd year Politics with Data Science student.
Originally from Hamburg, I’m still getting used to German Soc traditions like Bavarian Oktoberfest and Cologne Karneval - but I absolutely love them.
What makes this society so special are the close friendships you build and the inspiring figures you meet through events such as the German Symposium or the Career Dinner.
When I’m not trying to catch up on university work or enjoying a Guiness at German Soc pub nights, you’ll probably find me watching Schalke fight their way back to glory and promotion (hopefully I’m not jinxing it).
Please feel free to always reach out to me or the fantastic team if you have any questions!

Paula Raab
Vice President
My name is Paula, originally born and raised in Cologne and I’m currently in my third year studying Psychological and Behavioural Science.
Joining the German Society has been without doubt the best decision I’ve made during my time at LSE. Last year, I led the Society’s Logistics Team with a focus on organising and hosting the annual German Symposium. As this year’s Vice President, I am honoured to help shape the next Symposium as well - the 25th anniversary Edition! My absolute highlight is working with an incredible team toward such a major event and then seeing it all come to life on the day!
If you have any questions about the Symposium, the Society, or student life in general, feel free to reach out!

Sofie Wiedemeyer
General Secretary
Servus, I'm Sofie, originally from Augsburg and a 2nd-year Data Science & Public Policy master's student, constantly despairing over bugs in my code.
But that eye for detail (hopefully) comes in handy when organising the SOTS scholarship programme and keeping our society communications running smoothly.
I'm also involved in planning the 25th German Symposium, which for me is the highlight of the year, gathering so many great people and bringing out the best discussions.
It's a true pleasure to be part of this society and help shape our programme throughout the year. If you have any ideas, questions, or just want to chat, catch me for a coffee or a Guinness anytime (but don't ask me to split the G, I am very bad at it).

Jonathan Gulati
Treasurer
Hi, everyone! My name’s Jonathan, though most people call me Joni. I am originally from Hamburg and moved to London to study Economic History at LSE. Currently in my second year, I am serving as Treasurer of the society.
I have already been part of the society last year and my responsibilities mostly include managing our finances & sponsors and working together with the rest of the committee. Of course, I am also involved in organising our annual German Symposium, which has its 25th anniversary ahead!
It’s a true pleasure to be part of the society and whether you are a student, (prospective) partner, or someone else interested in the society – please don’t hesitate to reach out anytime!
We get it done.
